The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the largest humanitarian network in the world. Its mission is to alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and uphold human dignity especially during armed conflicts, natural disasters and other emergencies. It is present in every country and supported by millions of volunteers.
The Movement is composed of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the 189 individual National Societies operating in each country of the world. All are united by the Movement’s seven Fundamental Principles for humanitarian action: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
Under the auspices of the Standing Commission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent representatives of States and leaders of the Movement will meet at the 32nd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in December 2015, to debate and agree on humanitarian issues in the face of increasingly complex and interlinked humanitarian challenges.
